Teachers, Mentors, Heroes & Friends : Musicians are very giving people. Throughout history, very few musicians (performers, conductors, composers, music educators) have achieved success without the friendship, mentoring and support of other giving musicians. Josh has received incredible support from many, many teachers, mentors, heroes and friends since discovering music at the age of two. Here are just a few.

Barack Obama : Yes we can ...we really can!

Josh is full of hope and dreams, and he is a true believer. He believes in people, dreams of what the world can be, and understands the responsibility each of us has to make our world all that it can be.

Josh believes in and totally supports Barack Obama, and absolutely could not believe it when he was invited to perform at Barack's "Stand for Change" rally in Baltimore. He had the time of his life, and was so pleased to read in the papers that people enjoyed his music. The Baltimore Sun stated, "A 14-year-old black vioinist, Josh Coyne, dazzled the crowd with his virtuosity." Wow!! Josh is ready, willing and able to support Barack in any way he possibly can, and living proof that a fourteen-year-old who isn't even close to voting age can make a difference in the world.

Josh is a composer, a violinist, and a musician for the world. He's busy composing a new work dedicated to Barack, and can't wait for his next opportunity to be of service.

A Musician for the World : Music is an essential and universal language that is understood and valued by all people. Through it, people of every age, race, creed, political persuasion and economic circumstance can communicate as one people.

Josh is a musician. He is not a politician. He enjoys using his musical talents to draw people together, to bring attention to human needs and humanitarian causes, and to support and encourage world peace, and so he goes where that leads. He has attended, appeared at or worked on events for President Bush, Senator Kerry, Congressman Jim Leach, former Iowa Governor Terry Brandstad, Senator Hillary Clinton, Senator Barack Obama, former Senator/Secretary of Defense William Cohen, and many other leaders, and he appears at many embassy events and for many organizations focused on world peace.

Haiti : Haiti is a very special country. In 1804 it became the first black democratic country in the western hemisphere.

I was born in the United States. I am an American and proud to be one. I was adopted and do not know my birth heritage, but I am so impressed by the spirit and the accomplishments of the many Haitin people I have had the opportunity to meet, and so respectful of all they do to raise awareness of Haiti, that I have come to feel a that I am one with them.

Haiti is a very small country, so small that many people do not even know where it is. Others know it only for its struggles with poverty and political upheaval. There is so much more to know and understand. I try to use who I am to reach out to the people of Haiti, to support all those who are working for a brighter future for its people, and to celebrate the spirit and the achievements of so many Haitians that have always and will always define the true character of this country.

Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras (MCYO) : I auditioned for and have been a member of the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras (MCYO) since I moved to Maryland. MCYO rehearses and peforms in the amazing new Strathmore Music Center. MCYO is a wonderful. Along with more than 400 other talented young musicians, I have been given tremendous support and encouragement from this organization.

MCYO is a resident education partner at Strathmore. Along with other educational and professional partners including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, National Philharmonic, Washington Performing Arts Society, CityDance, and the Levine School of Music, Strathmore is one exciting place to be.

Besides having the opportunity to rehearse and perform with the talented musicians and conductors of MCYO, MCYO members have opportunities to attend and participate in master classes with BSO musicians, participate in open rehearsals with Maestro Marin Alsop, attend National Philharmonic and BSO concerts, participate in Strathmore sponsored events, and take advantage of the many concerts, lectures, and classes that make Strathmore such a great place to be.

I'll be adding more pictures to this gallery as they become available to me. In the meantime, please check out the MCYO website at http://www.mcyo.org.
